Grants

Agencies across the country too often don’t have the funding to equip their personnel with the protective gear they need. Fortunately, grants are available to help cover the cost of new equipment.

Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP)
One of the highest-funded grant programs is the Bulletproof Vest Partnership, created in 1999 to reimburse states, counties, federally recognized tribes, cities and local jurisdictions up to 50% of the cost of body armor vests purchased for law enforcement officers. Since 1999, the BVP program has awarded more than 13,000 jurisdictions, a total of $430 million in federal funds for the purchase of over one million vests (1,294,837) as of July, 2017).

The application period usually opens in April and closes six weeks from the opening date. The BVP only accepts applications once per year.
